Coach Patsha

Patsha Ha
Speech & Debate Coach

Coach Patsha started tutoring younger kids when he was in school, volunteering at his old elementary school in America to help ESL and other underprivileged students that needed more time and assistance in learning. It was here that he applied for the Big Brother program that taught him that teaching from an equal footing was as good if not better of a way to foster engagement and learning.

As part of the Highly Capable and later IB program, tutoring was a way for him to meet extracurricular requirements while also doing something that taught him about his own self. Many of these students, after learning with him, were able to improve a full letter grade or more and became permanent students of his in his own tutoring program.
He enrolled at Mahidol University and joined the Debate Club as one of the few international clubs that the university offered. Having little to no debate experience except for the little he had against friends and parents, he didn’t have high expectations.

He quickly rose up to be one of the strongest debaters in the club with a variety of knowledge and experience from his volunteer and other life perspectives, despite having very little explicit training. He quickly became a frequent participant and senior at the club, being given the reins to teach specific lessons and topics to the university-level debaters. He was also one of the main proponents behind an integrated learning between clubs and curriculum classes as well as a specific course and training for prospective adjudicators within the Thai circuit.

Coach Patsha has gone to numerous tournaments as a debater, adjudicator, but also invited as a Core Adjudicator responsible for the testing and standardization of motions as well as judging standards. During this time, he began teaching at A-Team Academy because of the shared belief he has in getting kids to express their ideas as being one of the important problems in contemporary education.

Speech/Debate Coaching Experience: 6 years
Teaching Experience: 10+ years
Teaching Philosophy

Coach Patsha believes that it is not knowledge that matters but one’s application of it that is the most important. Using topics and issues from both contemporary news but also from the real issues that students struggle with, he pushes for student investment to foster practical growth. He believes students should be able to explain themselves in a variety of different fashions and to a variety of different audiences if they hope to exist in the world of the future.

Fun Fact

The ocean is a terrifying place that we don’t know anything about. And I don’t know anything about swimming.
